The WEBER screwdriver system distinguishes itself from traditional fastening technology through the integration of a micrometer-quality depth sensor, or LVDT, which tracks a screw's exact position in space during the assembly process. While most industry competitors analyze fastening joints in only two dimensions—focusing on torque and angle—WEBERs controllers provide a three-dimensional perspective by simultaneously monitoring torque, angle, and depth. This comprehensive data allows the system to verify that a screw has reached its proper position without being hindered by excessive prevailing or thread-forming torque, ensuring the integrity of the clamp load and providing a superior level of error-proofing.

One of the unique things about a WEBER screwdriving system is that we have a built-in, more or less, like an LVDT or depth sensor, as we call it. It is a micrometer-quality measuring system that allows us to realize where the screw is in space. In other words, are we only one turn into the part or all the way in the part?
With this data, we can actually monitor the process based on position, rather than just on time or angle, which is what most of our competitors offer. This allows the system to not only run a screw in and verify it is at the proper torque, but also that it is in the proper position. And before it gets to the proper position, it hasn't built up so much prevailing or thread-forming torque that it is going to compromise the clamp load.
This feature is unique because it is built into all of our systems and all of our controllers have this option built in as well. It would be one thing to drive to torque and monitor angle and monitor depth with another system, but tying this all together is what gets confusing for customers. So, with our controls, we not only see torque and angle, we see depth as well. Where most competitors see a fastening joint in two dimensions, we see it in three dimensions. This gives us a huge advantage and allows us to error-proof the process to a completely different level.
