Assembly Show Showcase: SBM25 For Automated Blind Rivet Nut & Bolt Installation
By: Tom Ash Sep 23, 2026, 6:00:01 AM
WEBER SBM25 Automates Blind Rivet Nut and Bolt Installation With Process Reliability and Minimal Downtime. It is designed for continuous, highly automated production. The SBM25 processes both round and hexagonal-head fasteners with insertion forces up to 25 kN while minimizing operator intervention and production downtime.
The SBM25 is ideal for automated fastening applications across automotive, EV battery assembly, and other high-volume production environments where blind rivet nuts and bolts must be installed reliably, repeatedly, and with minimal operator intervention.
The SBM25 addresses your challenges
Blind rivet nut installation can introduce several challenges to an automated assembly process, including precise fastener alignment, mandrel wear, inconsistent setting processes, and the need to accommodate different fastener types. The SBM25 addresses these challenges with an integrated feeding and control system specifically optimized for blind rivet nut and bolt installation.
A key feature of the SBM25 is its laser-assisted alignment system, which precisely aligns the fastener with the workpiece before insertion. This is particularly important when processing hexagonal fasteners, where proper rotational orientation is required. The system combines precise path and force monitoring with automated process control to provide reliable, repeatable fastening.
The SBM25 also addresses one of the most common sources of downtime in blind rivet installation: mandrel wear and replacement. The system can automatically change the mandrel, its primary wear component, eliminating the need for an operator or maintenance technician to stop production and manually replace a worn mandrel. An optional mandrel feeding and nesting system can further automate the exchange process for extended, hands-off operation.
The mandrel itself is spring-loaded to help protect the thread during insertion and removal, contributing to longer component life and reliable operation. The SBM25’s mechanical system is designed for more than seven million cycles, even under maximum load.
Fastener feeding is also synchronized with the setting process. The next fastener can be fed while the current fastener is being set, allowing the system to make efficient use of robot idle time and helping achieve cycle times of five seconds.
For production environments requiring flexibility
For production environments requiring flexibility, the SBM25 features a dockable spindle system that allows different fastener sizes or types—including nuts and bolts—to be processed alternately. This makes it possible to configure the system for multiple fastening applications while maintaining a high level of automation.
The system also provides automatic quality control. The SBM25 monitors the setting process through precision path and force monitoring and can automatically eject defective fasteners. This provides production teams with greater process reliability while helping prevent improperly installed fasteners from continuing through the assembly process.
The SBM25 is designed to maintain a stable process regardless of its orientation, allowing feeding and setting in any working direction. Fastener sizes include M4 to M10 blind rivet nuts and M5 to M8 blind rivet bolts, with an insertion force of up to 25 kN in continuous operation.
By combining precision alignment, automated fastener feeding, mandrel management, process monitoring and flexible tooling in a single system, the WEBER SBM25 provides manufacturers with a highly automated approach to blind rivet nut and bolt installation, helping reduce downtime while improving process consistency and production reliability.
